Summary:

Description: Dark blue cover with leather Blood Chit, also called Identification Flag, featuring the U.S. and Nationalists Chinese Flags along with the emblem of the China-Burma-India Theater. The Blood Chits were designed to provide rapid identification of downed aircraft personnel and facilitate assistance from local allies encountered. The translation of the six columns of Chinese characters is as follows: "This foreign person (American) has come to China to help in the war effort. Soldiers and civilians, one and all, should rescue, protect, and provide him with medical care." The scrapbook contains large photographs from the service of Corporal Henry A. Valetsky with the 2nd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron of the 10th Air Force in the China Burma India (CBI) Theater. Subjects include: Indian civilians, views of Indian towns, portraits of servicemen, the puppy mascot of the 2nd Weather Rcn. Sq. Weather Section, USAAF officers, USO shows, aerial views of The Hump (Himalayan mountains), Chinese civilians and town scenes, planes including the Northrop P-61 Black Widow night fighter and other fighter aircraft, photographic reconaissance units and other group portraits.
