WAVES; Flight Orderly; Northeast; Midwest; West Coast US; she had an interesting story about trying to volunteer for the WAVES when she was nineteen; after arguing with her father she was allowed to volunteer for the WAVES; after training she became a Flight Orderly and performed duties similar to a stewardess; she told many stories about having to make sure that her passengers kept in line such as the strict no smoking policy during the beginning of the flight; she had Betty Grable's husband Harry James on one of her flights; towards the end of the war she went on several hospital flights in which her plane was transporting wounded men from the fighting on Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
