Summary:

Bataan Death March survivor; Authored book Bataan Death March Survivor; Bollich was trained as a B-24 mechanic; was in gunnery training when his unit was transferred to Ft. McKinley in the Philippines; When hostilities started he was transferred to infantry because his bomber never arrived; He and men from other units began a slow retreat until his unit was surrendered; He had many adventures during this period of time such as going on hunting expeditions, and taking photographs of his retreat (post war - he saw one of his photos which he buried to hide from the Japanese in a magazine); He and the rest of the men suffered terribly during their four year captivity; He and other men were beaten for slight infractions and for sometimes no reason at all; He lived and worked at several different slave labor camps each with different levels of living conditions; He eventually worked and lived in Busan, Korea and later Mukden, Manchuria; at Mukden he witnessed the deaths of two POWS who had been caught trying to escape; Bollich was sent to solitary confinement for several days for not accepting Japanese authority; A few Americans parachuted in to explain to the camp commander that the war was over and he should let these POWS go. 16th Bombardment Squadron.
