Summary:
William Bode served in the Army as a medic in Company D, 311th Medical Battalion, 86th Infantry Division and took part in combat operations in Central Europe. After the Germans surrendered, Bode's unit was sent back to the United States to prepare for the invasion of Japan. He arrived in the Pacific after the war there ended and spent several months on Southern Luzon before returning to the United States for good.
