On Okinawa, Butterfield was shot across both eyes and blinded. While being evacuated, he was hit again with mortar fire. Now blind, his wife assisted with the preparation for the interview beforehand so that the questions would be asked and answered in his narrative. His is a powerful story about survival and perseverance and dealing with civilian life after suffering war injuries. 1st Marine Division.
