Description: Series III. Correspondence, 1945. Letters from Turner, January 1945 to August 1945. This series contains letters from Walker Marshall Turner to his wife, Mary Lalla Byrn Turner. In the letters, Turner discusses how he spends his free time, and the weather. He also discusses to a degree the death of his brother, Henry "Hank" Turner. He talks about his brother-in-law, Collin Byrn, missing in action, as well as his death. During 1945, Turner was stationed in Naples, Italy; Po Valley, Italy (north of Rome); and Rome, Italy. Topics: returning a son to the states if one son dies; Russians closing in on Berlin; President Roosevelt’s death; Mussolini’s death; and VE Day. Note: The book does contain the transcription of the 5 January 1945, 5 March 1945, 6 August 1945, and 12 August 1945 letters, but the original letters are not in the collection.
