Description: This series (1 folder) consists of letters and V-mails from the service of Lawrence "Jeff" Clark, who served in the 20th Engineer Combat Regiment and 1340th Engineer Combat Battalion in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations and European Theater of Operations. The bulk of the series is correspondence is to his mother, Inez, but there are some letters addressed to his younger siblings, Hazel and Walter. Within the series are L. Clark’s classification cards from 1942 and letters he wrote from 1943-1945 while he was overseas. During his service Clark was stationed in Casablanca, Morocco; Lichfield, England; Bristol, England; and Normandy, France. In his letter to his mother on 28 June 1944, he writes that he was in France "early enough to see a little of the excitement "and that it was third time he was had to wade ashore, indicating that he was likely part of D-Day. During his time in France, L. Clark was injured and transported to a hospital in England. He was awarded the Purple Heart at this time. In the spring of 1945, Clark returned to France. During his service, L. Clark rose to the rank of corporal. Also included is a photograph of L. Clark with another serviceman as well as a postcard with a color-tinted photographic print of L. Clark in his uniform, presumably from when he was in North Africa.;Letters, postcards, and V-mails to Inez Clark and her youngest children from her three eldest sons and brother-in-law, who served in separate engineering battalions in the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations and the Pacific Theater of Operations.
