Description: This series consists of 17 pieces of personal correspondence from Hugh Donaldson to his wife, Frances, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The letters, V-mails, and telegrams were sent while Donaldson was traveling to France and when he was in France. Subject matters include his trip to Europe, promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, receiving a Bronze Star, being hospitalized after getting hit by a shell fragment, and sending her his Purple Heart. A few of the letters do not have envelopes.;Personal correspondence, photographs, and souvenirs from the service of Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Donaldson. The collection is arranged into five series: I. Personal correspondence from Hugh Donaldson, September 1944-December 1944; II. Personal correspondence from Hugh Donaldson, January 1945-October 1945; III.
