- Description: Pencil on paper, 7 ¼" x 6", mounted on cardboard. Pencil drawing of one U.S. soldier digging foxhole, the other coming up behind him with weapon and entrenching tool. Titled "Scouts Dig In." Donor's description of piece: "As scout I had flushed out a German outpost and took my second scout (Glasses) to a good spot to dig a hole before we would be hit with small arms and mortars. Never finished that hole due to heavy shelling, rockets and a tank gun that convinced us to vacate in the direction from which we had come. I left the body of our new 2nd Looey and others in a 200 yard retreat. We took that hill (708) by late afternoon"; Donor's description on back of cardboard mount: "By the time we owned Hill 708 late in the afternoon I had helped dig five two man fox holes: the most I had ever dug in one day."
