- Description: This series (1 folder) consists of letters and postcards from John Mullins to his family in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1943, Mullins trained at Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee; Santa Ana Army Air Base, Santa Ana, California; Sequoia Field, California; War Eagle Field, California; Luke Field, Arizona; and McChord Field, Washington. Mullins writes about his daily routines at each training camp, becoming classified as a pilot, contracting scarlet fever, and riding in a P-38 for first time.;Personal correspondence from the service of Captain John Mullins, who was a P-38 pilot in the 94th Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group in the Mediterranean and European Theater of Operations.
