Description: Postcard from Tinkler Field, Oklahoma; letters from Noel sent from APO 12453, New York, but while still stationed inside the United States, last one sent while crossing the Atlantic Ocean in mid-October 1943; letters from Noel sent from APO 12453, but while stationed in England; letters from Noel, sent from AADA, Headquarters of the 9th Air Corps, APO 638, England; letters from Noel, sent from the Headquarters Squadron 86 A.D.G. [Air Depot Group], APO 638, England; letters from Noel, sent from the Headquarters of the 1st AADA (advanced air depot area), 9th Air Force, APO 638, England; letters from Noel, sent while commanding the 70th ASG (Air Service Group), 9th Air Force, APO 638, England although he was relieved of this position after one month. A letter from 3 April states ‘This is a young man’s war…"; letters from Noel, sent after relieved from position of commanding officer the 70th ASG (Air Service Group), reassigned to the 9th Air Force Air Service Group, APO 149, England (possibly where he experienced his 1st or 2nd heart attack); letters from Noel, sent from the 2nd General Hospital in England, APO 647; letters from Noel, sent from the 82nd General Hospital in England, APO 515; letters from Noel, sent from the Halloran General Hospital on Staten Island, New York; letter from Noel, sent from Brooks General Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.;This collection contains letters and photographs (151 items) from the service of Lt. Col. Olen W. Noel. Organzied into two series: I. Personal correspondence between Olen Noel and his parents, September 1943-June 1944; Series II. Photographs from the home front service of Olen Noel. Bulk of the correspondence comes from Noel's service in England while with 1st AADA [Advanced Air Depot Area] and 70th ASG [Air Service Group] at Headquarters of the 9th Air Corps, Headquarters Squadron 86 A.D.G. [Air Depot Group], and while recovering from illness at three different hospitals.
