In May 1943 he leaves the United States in a B-24 bomber headed for England, then North Africa, then to Italy with later bombing runs over Germany, returning to the U.S. in November 1945. He flies to the Middle East in August 1946 and throughout 1947. A list of combat missions over Italy and Germany are on the last few pages.
