Fox's training as an engineer mechanic; his participation and subsequent serious wounding in the Second Schweinfurt Raid on 14 October 1943; and his stateside recuperation. Fox was awarded with the Distinguished Service Cross and Purple Heart. While convalescing, Fox promoted the 5th War Bond Drive.
