Summary:

Ryals served as a medic in the I&R Platoon, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division. He has a few excellent stories about the hells of combat and having to perform medical tasks under fire. One such story is of the early morning hours he was captured when he had to work on/do surgery on a GI with a severe head wound by the light of a cigarette lighter. A few hours later, the Germans pulled up a Tiger tank to the house that they were inside and demanded that they come out and surrender. Ryals was a prisoner and eventually ended up at Hammelburg POW camp.
