The missions of the engineers in construction and destruction are, today, more numerous, varied and important than in the past. The service has, therefore, been greatly increased in size and partly motorized. In addition to bridge construction and ferry service, road construction, the destruction of obstacles and traffic routes, the installation of obstacles has emerged as an especially important area. The engineers must often also help in the heavy work of the construction of positions.
