Summary:
Austin Chambers entered service with the Army in 1943. After completing his basic training he was assigned to the 20th Armored Division as a spotter for a 60 mm mortar squad. Chambers' unit arrived in Europe late in the war, seeing combat in the Munich area. After the war in Europe ended, Chambers was shipped back to the United States to prepare for redeployment to the Pacific. Fortunately, the Japanese surrendered before he shipped out and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of sergeant.
