Summary:

T/4 Lucien Joly was born in 1924 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was drafted into the United State Army in June of 1943. He was trained as a medic and was assigned to the 18th General Hospital Unit in Burma. The voyage from the United States was long and difficult. He remembers, after being transported across the Pacific Ocean to India, they took trains from Bombay to Calcutta and then into Burma. The weather in Burma was intolerable. It rained almost constantly, was hot, and there were always mosquitoes to deal with. The 18th Hospital Unit had about 500 beds at their facility and administered aid to Indians, Burmese, Chinese, British and Americans. Upon the conclusion of the war, Lucien returned to New Orleans, Louisiana.
