Summary:

PFC Russell Rudolph was born in Metairie in 1923. Russell enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and was assigned to a P-51 crash crew with the 8th Air Force in England. As a member of a crash crew he was a first responder to any airplanes that came back from missions that had been damaged. Russell talked about putting fires out and helping to evacuate the crew from their damaged planes. Several times Russell removed the severely wounded and dead air men from their planes. When the war was over he was transferred to Munich as part of the occupation force in Germany. He was overwhelmed by the destruction of Germany and the condition of the German people. Along with the other air men they fed and provided medical help for the German civilians. When the war concluded he returned to Metairie Louisiana.
