John Pool served in the USAAF as a flight engineer on B24 Liberator heavy bombers in the 735th Bombardment Squadron, 453rd Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force. He was shot down on his 29th mission and spent the rest of the war as a POW at Stalag Luft VII-A. Prior to being shot down, Pool flew two test missions with Jimmy Stewart.
