Summary:

Evans was a Quartermaster and a Signalman on board the USS LCI 443; he joined the Navy when he was 17 and entered the Naval Air Cadet training but after the Mariannas Turkey Shoot he was transferred out of the program and he went to Quartermaster school; later assigned to USS LCI443; he met the ship in Leyte and transported submarine sailors to Manila and later transported Japanese POWS; he went to Okinawa in August of 1945; he stayed five days in Buckner Bay with other ships trying to stay afloat during the typhoon; after the war he stayed in and retired as a Commander; there are several scanned photos in his file and a few are of Japanese POWS.
