Unit information may not be correct. Thomas was a replacement pilot; he flew a Piper Cub carrying a forward artillery spotter who called in artillery on German troop positions in Italy; during this time the Germans were retreating; he was calling in fire missions on various places such as Northern Florence and near the Austrian border; after the Germans were defeated in Italy he was transferred to Austria and served as a liaison pilot for a General for the rest of the war.
