joined the army before the war; was first assigned to Headquarters Troop; 3rd Cavalry Brigade at Ft. Riley; when the horse cavalry was disbanded he was sent to the 9th Armored Division as a supply clerk; he went to Officers Candidate School (OCS) in Maryland then went into chemical warfare school; he taught classes on poison gasses at several bases; after being shipped out to CBI he was put in charge of warehouses storing poison gasses.
