Summary:
Joseph I. Heiser served in the army as an infantryman in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division and took part in the Battle of San Pietro, the Rapido River Crossing, and the Battle of Anzio. During his last battle, he was captured and spent the remainder of the war as a POW. After he was liberated in the spring of 1945, Heiser returned to the United States and was discharged from the Army with the rank of sergeant.
