Summary:

Hensley was a rifleman with the 179th Infantry Regiment; he first landed in Oran, North Africa and later saw some minor combat in Sicily; he next took part in the invasion of Salerno; he recalled that it was a very difficult battle; during this campaign he remembered fighting around the Calore River; he was also involved in the invasion of Anzio; he recalled that it was a very long stalemate; he next took part in the invasion of Southern France and fought around St. Maxime; Hensley fought in the Vosges Mountains until was wounded; he did not return to the front lines after that; he received the Bronze Star Medal but does not recall why.
