- Summary:
- Description: LST and bulldozers on beach during invasion of Italy at Salerno. Caption: "2005. From: Public Relations Division. U.S. Coast Guard. Washington, D.C. Official Coast Guard Photo. Invaders disgorged through bow. Hitherto kept secret, the open doors of an LST (Landing Ship, Tank) are shown in this photograph by a U.S. Coast Guard Combat Photographer. Picture was taken at Paestum, south of Salerno, and shows bulldozers, amphibious "duck trucks", and other heavy equipment being unloaded. The opening bow doors are probably the most revolutionary development in amphibious operations in this war. Coast Guardsmen and Navy Personnel man LST's and other landing craft." Paestum, Italy.
