Summary:

Edward Benezech entered the United States Army in 1941 and served in the 938 Field Artillery. His first deployment in the war was in North Africa after that campaign had concluded. His unit was then sent to Anzio arriving four days after the landing. Benezech talks about intense artillery shelling, his unit firing up to 6,000 rounds in a day for three straight days. He was in southern Germany when the war concluded and made friends with a local baker who supplied him and his unit with fresh bread daily. When he relocated back to the United States he stayed in the Army retiring after 34 years a Lt. Colonel.
