- Summary:
- Description: Bild 5: Spielleute, Pict. 5: Musicians. Initially there were drummers and pipers in the mercenary armies. In the time of Fredrick the Great the tambour drum coordinated the advance of the battalions advancing in close order. Up to the time of the World War the bugle and drum still signaled the assault. Today the function of the musician is almost only the playing of march music. In addition, our contemporary flat, light drum is only about 80 years old and military music in its present form hardly more than 100 years old.
