Description: This series (2 sleeves) consists of letters from James Fisher Jr., to his parents, Reverend James and Mrs. Nannie Fisher, Cameron, West Virginia. At the beginning of the year, Fisher is at Camp Upton, New York, and waiting discharge orders. While at Camp Upton, Fisher attends the play "Deep are the Roots," about the issues African American GIs face when returning to the South. On 28 February, he writes from Fort George Meade, New Jersey, and informs his parents that he is being discharged. His next letters are from the Ohio State University, where Fisher accepted a faculty position in late March. Also included in the series are letters from Fisher’s sister, Dorothy, and the front page of the 29 January 1946 copy of Camp Upton’s periodical, "The Cadence.";Personal correspondence from the service of Second Lieutenant James Fisher Jr. who served as a clinical psychologist in the United States Army on the Home Front.
