Description: This series consist of 44 letters from Lynn Rose Jr., to his parents, Lynn and Blanche Rose, in Sterling, Kansas. In 1944, Rose was stationed at Hunter Field, Georgia; Army Air Field, Columbus, Indiana; Andrews Field, England; Chartres, France; and Reims, France. Rose writes about his daily routine; training drills, promotions, waiting to ship out in March, life in England, English race relations with African Americans, German propaganda, earning his air medals and insignia, flying planes over Normandy, his sister’s marriage, life in France, American soldiers being wounded or killed while trying to collect items left behind by the Germans, and the number of missions he completed.;Personal correspondence, photographs, military documents, and government documents from the service of Staff Sergeant Lynn Rose, who was killed in action while serving as a gunner on the B-26 "Draggin Lady" with the 599th Bombardment Squadron, 397th Bombardment Group (M) in the European Theater of Operations.
