Description: This series consist of 83 letters from Lynn Rose Jr., to his parents, Lynn and Blanche Rose, in Sterling, Kansas. The bulk of the series focuses on Rose’s basic training and flight school. Rose trained at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Atlantic City Training Center, New Jersey; Seymour Johnson Field, North Carolina; Goldsboro Technical Training School, North Carolina; Flexible Gunnery School, Fort Myers, Florida; and Hunter Field, Georgia. Rose writes about his daily routine, training drills, becoming an airplane mechanic, his time with the 990th Squadron in Atlantic City Training Center, race relations, an electrical storm killing four boys at training school, and becoming an aerial engineer gunner on a B-26 bomber.;Personal correspondence, photographs, military documents, and government documents from the service of Staff Sergeant Lynn Rose, who was killed in action while serving as a gunner on the B-26 "Draggin Lady" with the 599th Bombardment Squadron, 397th Bombardment Group (M) in the European Theater of Operations.
