The citation reads: "For exceptionally meritorious achievement in the destruction of one enemy airplane while on a fighter combat mission over enemy occupied continental Europe, 14 June 1944. The courage, coolness, and skill displayed by Lieutenant Colburn reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.".
