- Description: This series (1 folder) consists of letters and a V-mail from John King to his future wife, Phyllis Nisbet. In 1942, King was an Aviation Cadet at Albuquerque Air Base in New Mexico and Nisbet was attending Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. By January 1943, King had been promoted to Lieutenant and was at Davis-Monthan Field in Tucson, Arizona. He was then assigned to the 355th Bomb Squadron and stationed in Clovis, New Mexico, and Salinas, Kansas, before being shipped off to England in June with the 44th Bombardment Group, 68th Bombardment Squadron, 8th Air Force. King remained in England for the rest of the correspondence. Also included in the series is a letter from Nisbet to King written on 22 November 1944, after King returned to California from England.;Personal correspondence from the service of Captain John King, who served as a bombardier aboard a B-24 with the 44th Bombardment Group, 68th Bombardment Squadron, 8th Air Force in the European and Mediterranean Theater of Operations. The collection is divided into two series: I. Personal correspondence from Jon King to Phyllis Nisbet, 1942-1944 and II. Personal correspondence from Jon King to his family, 1942-1945.
