Description: Scrapbook from the service of William Mattern, a regional supply officer. Personal caption on cover: "William J. Mattern / Karachi, India / July 23 - 1942 - Nov. 29 / Assam - Dec. 11 - 1943 - Oct. 10 / Burma / Oct. 10 - 1944 - Nov. 18 / USA / Dec 7, '44." Subjects in photographs include: the S.S. Mariposa; local population and animals in India and Burma; Polish Refugee camp in the desert; Chinese soldiers and engineers; traveling the Ledo Road with photographs every mile; Pangsau Pass (refugee trail); debris of Japanese bomber downed behind Ledo Road; Hell Gate bridge; African American soldiers; dead Japanese soldiers; G.M.C. graveyard construction equipment junk pile; and a company photo. Images of dead Japanese soldiers and girl with yaws are very graphic. Scrapbook also includes photographs of Virginia Mattern [nee Ginny] at the beginning.
