Items in the series include: parachute training certificates, announcement of furlough, orders or awarding of medals, military correspondence to the parents of Calvin Benedict concerning his status as missing in action then to prisoner of war, and postwar Veteran’s Administration and financial documents.;Personal correspondence, military correspondence, photographs, and souvenirs from the service of Sergeant Calvin Benedict, who served with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and was a German prisoner of war from June 1944 to January 1945. The collection is arranged into four series: I. Military and government documents, 1943-1951; II. Personal correspondence, May 1944-September 1944; III. Prisoner of war correspondence, August 1944-March 1945; and IV. Souvenirs and personal items, 1943-1945.
