Description: From Captain John Pratt, Commanding Officer of USS Bismarck Sea, Washington, D.C., to Mrs. Grace Howell, Texarkana, Texas. Considers it unfortunate that he was unable to write to her about the death of her son, Earl Sewell, until after the sinking of the USS Bismarck Sea had been published. The ship was hit along the coast of Iwo Jima; it was noted that Earl left the ship but was never accounted for; they believe he drowned; his body was never recovered; promises that they will fight harder in memory of Earl.1 page.
