Description: This series consists of 122 envelopes featuring illustrations by Private First Class Joseph Blackburn. PFC Blackburn was transferred from Camp Lejeune, New River, North Carolina, to Camp Pendleton, California, in Feb 194 He is assigned to the 5th Engineer Battalion, 5th Marine Division in May 1944, and in September his unit is sent to Hawaii. The bulk of the correspondence was sent to his parents, William and Sophia Blackburn, and sister, Muriel Blackburn, in Berlin, Connecticut. He also sent a letter to Ann Blackburn, his younger sister who was also residing with their parents.
