- Description: Edward Sabo, wore this M-1 helmet throughout his service in Europe with Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), 101st Airborne Division. The helmet shell has a white spade painted on both sides with a tick mark at the 6 o'clock position; the liner has 'Sabo' painted on the back. Each of the four infantry regiments in the 101st Airborne used a suit from a deck of cards as its identifying mark. The spade went to the 506th PIR. The location of the tick mark denoted which battalion a soldier belonged to within each regiment. This helmet's spade and a tick in the 6 o’clock position meant Sabo belonged to the 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR.
