Description: Black three-ring binder. Red and white sticker label on the spine is torn, and remaining portion reads "Eb's Oct - Nov 1944." Scrapbook of correspondence from Major Eberhard Deutsch, Western Europe, to his wife, Rhea Deutsch, New Orleans, in addition to newspaper clippings and photographs. Encamped in Belgium during October, Deutsch describes the discomforts of camp life and news from the area, including the new economic policies being enacted to tax income made during the German occupation, and in an attempt to lessen inflation; mid-October, Deutsch was in Belgium, Holland and Germany, trying an important court-martial case, before arriving in Aachen days after it was vacated by retreating German troops; Deutsch made an unsuccessful bid to become American Minister to Austria.
