- Description: Several newspaper clippings regarding experiences indirectly related to George Durant's service such as Eisenhower donating blood, the invasion of Mindoro, friends being honorably discharged, etc. One does discuss Durant himself, "Kept Gun Going Despite Suicide Diver Bomber" and another "Seaman George Durant is Given Silver Star for distinguishing himself by gallantry and intrepidity in action on 16 December 1944 while a crew member of the USS LST 605 participating in the landing on Mindoro. He remained at his station, keeping the gun firing in face of almost certain destruction from a Japanese suicide plane. He suffered first, second, and third degree burns when the plane crashed 75 feet from his station but continued to perform his duties as loader until the action as over.
