Description: George Durant, Norfolk, Virginia to Mrs. Herbert J. Potts, Pelham Manor, New York. George is sick with a stomach ache and the "trots" (diarrhea?) which the doctor treated with paregoric. His ship, the USS Cofer, is preparing to head out with other ships like it, which are converted Des (destroyer escorts), converted so as not to be recognized. The Cofer carries one big gun instead of several, as well as landing barges to bring marines to shore. George will either be assigned to land duty or the 7th Fleet.
