- Description: Lt. (jg) G. H. Gaddis, USS LST 605 to Capt. M. P. Evenson, War-Navy Department, 21st and Virginia Ave. NW, Washington D. C. George Durant was injured on 16 December 1944 on the second day of the invasion of Mindoro, the Philippines. After his ship shot down a Japanese bomber, it exploded causing a gasoline tub to burst which killed everyone else near it, but Durant survived with burns. After treatment, Durant reported back to the ship in April 1945.
