- Summary:
- I develop a framework to study how innovation propagates through dynamic supply chain relationships. I document that supply chain links shape R&D investment and that innovation influences relationship formation. I introduce a novel dynamic heterogeneous-firm model with endogenous many-to-many supply chain relationships and innovation in general equilibrium. Complementarity in input quality generates positive sorting and spillovers that increase innovation incentives and widen disparities between high- and low-quality firms. Using quasi-exogenous variation from R&D tax credits, I show that partner innovation predicts increases in R&D, firm value, and returns to R&D. In the calibrated model, bidirectional spillovers across endogenous supply chains account for one-fifth of aggregate output
