L'opera di Goliarda Sapienza è qui interpretata come un progetto organico di riscrittura genealogica della narrativa italiana nel trentennio 1967-1996, nel contesto della crisi del romanzo borghese che investe le categorie di soggetto, Storia e Nazione tra il Sessantotto e la fine delle utopie. Proveniente dal teatro e dalla militanza, Sapienza trasforma l'autobiografia in un dispositivo critico capace di interrogare i presupposti genealogici della modernità italiana. Assumendo la genealogia come lente teorica (Foucault, Deleuze, femminismo italiano), la ricerca ricostruisce la sua traiettoria come una messa in discussione dei dispositivi identitari del romanzo nazionale.In questa prospettiva, Lettera aperta e Il filo di mezzogiorno sono riletti come momenti di una dinamica tra personale e politico, in cui Maria Giudice costituisce la prima matrice ideologica e affettiva. Se Lettera aperta elabora la genealogia della formazione dell'autrice, ne Il filo di mezzogiorno l'indagine del sé assume la forma di una pratica di guarigione ispirata allo psicodramma moreniano. Amore sotto il fascismo estende tale prospettiva, reinscrivendo il personale nella storia nazionale.Con L'arte della gioia, Sapienza realizza la declinazione più radicale del proprio progetto: una contro-epica nazionale che combina tradizione romanzesca, montaggio cinematografico e sperimentazione etico-politica. La figura di Modesta sovverte i nuclei fondativi della narrativa italiana, producendo genealogie plurali e non normative. Il confronto con La Storia di Morante consente di misurare l'originalità di questo intervento.Gli scritti successivi trasferiscono il lavoro genealogico sul terreno della memoria e della storia italiana, configurando la madre come figura politica e la comunità femminile come eredità condivisa. Sulla base dei materiali inediti del Fondo Adele Cambria e dei taccuini privati, la tesi mostra come Sapienza elabori, ai margini del canone, un nuovo modello di romanzo genealogico, capace di riconfigurare i rapporti tra individuo e collettività

Goliarda Sapienza's body of work is interpreted here as a coherent project of genealogical rewriting within Italian narrative fiction spanning the thirty years from 1967 to 1996-a period marked by the crisis of the bourgeois novel and the challenging of categories such as the subject, History, and the Nation in the wake of 1968 and the collapse of utopian ideals. Drawing on her background in theater and political activism, Sapienza transforms autobiography into a critical tool capable of interrogating the genealogical underpinnings of Italian modernity. Adopting genealogy as a theoretical lens (drawing on Foucault, Deleuze, and Italian feminism), this study reconstructs her trajectory as a challenge to the identity-forming mechanisms of the "national novel."From this perspective, Lettera aperta and Il filo di mezzogiorno are re-examined as stages in the interplay between the personal and the political, with Maria Giudice serving as the primary ideological and emotional source. While Lettera aperta maps the genealogy of the author's own formation, Il filo di mezzogiorno approaches self-exploration as a healing practice inspired by Moreno's psychodrama. Amore sotto il fascismo extends this perspective by re-situating the personal within the context of national history.With L'arte della gioia, Sapienza achieves the most radical expression of her project: a national counter-epic that blends novelistic tradition, cinematic montage, and ethical-political experimentation. The character of Modesta subverts the foundational elements of Italian narrative fiction, generating plural, non-normative genealogies. A comparison with Elsa Morante's La Storia highlights the originality of Sapienza's approach.Her later writings shift this genealogical inquiry into the realm of memory and Italian history, framing the mother figure as a political entity and the female community as a shared legacy. Drawing on unpublished materials from the Adele Cambria Archive and private notebooks, this study demonstrates how Sapienza-working at the margins of the literary canon-develops a new model of the genealogical novel capable of reconfiguring the relationship between the individual and the collective
