Summary:
Introduction: This report is intended to serve a double purpose. Its primary aim is to report the present status and any results of the investigations which have been in progress in this project during the current fiscal year. The secondary aim of the report is to summarize in brief outline the development of the project since the last report to receive distribution, the report prepared two years ago in the summer of 1947, and to indicate the general line of development which is planned for the future of the project. In other words, it should serve as a general orientation report of the project as a whole. There has been no change in the personnel of this project during the past six months, since the last Interim Report, other than the return of Miss Jean Hoffman on March 1 to full-time duty after three months leave. The number of people employed by the project during the past several years has remained essentially unchanged, although there has been some turnover in personnel. The staff of the project has included the part-tire services of H. C. Willett as supervisor, four full-time members appointed by M. I. T., two full-time clerical assistants from the Weather Bureau, and an occasional part - time assistant.
