Summary:
Many of the documents relate to the U.S. Marine Corps occupation of Nicaragua and the efforts to end political unrest and stabilize the country. There are appended press comments from Managua and Bluefields reflecting both opposition to and support for U.S. military intervention in Nicaragua. In addition there are documents on efforts to protect American lives and property; Dollar Diplomacy; U.S. support of Adolfo Diaz's presidency; Diaz's request for U.S. military forces to stabilize the country; the Bryan-Chamorro Treaty; American commercial interests and American bank loans; the Constitutionalist War and U.S. recognition of the coalition government; the political rise of Augusto Sandino; and U.S. efforts to broker an end to Sandino's guerrilla war.
