- Summary:
- "Cincinnati was home to three major Negro League Teams-the Cincinnati-Cuban Stars, the Cincinnati Tigers and the Cincinnati Clowns-as well as several Black semi-professional teams and many important figures in the history of Black baseball. DeHart Hubbard, the first African American to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games, owned the Tigers. Cincinnatian Charlie Grant, Jr., who almost broke through the color line in Major League baseball in 1902, later managed in Cincinnati's semi-pro leagues and tried to bring the local teams to national prominence. This book explores the history of Black baseball in Cincinnati from 1870-1970, including the role that the Cincinnati Reds organization played going back to the 19th century"-- Provided by publisher.
