Summary:
Our most important mission and goal is to increase access to modern energy in poor places in the world so that simple daily tasks can be achieved much more easily and safely. For example, traditional three-stone stoves that are used for cooking in many places claim more than a million young children’s lives every year through respiratory disease. Prof. Sachs details the potential struggles in the day of the life of a person in a rural village and the ways that modern energy services could improve the situation in terms of health and alleviating hardship. Advances of technology and mobilization of the world can help people break free of energy poverty and the poverty trap more generally, because there are low cost solutions to daily problems and these empower households to be more productive and focus attention on earning higher incomes and ensuring safety and health. New technologies enable these improvements in livelihoods and wellbeing to help people find their way out of poverty in the long term.
