Story of the 1st high mountain ascent in the History of mankind, the Mount Corno, the highest in Italy, on the 9th of August 1573, by de Marchi, 213 years before the ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786, which was until recently considered to be the 1st in History. Thanks to recent discoveries by historians, this documentary reveals the story of the first high mountain ascent, the Mount Corno Grande, highest point of Abruzzo, in the Apennines, in the Gran Sasso’s mountain range, the highest in Italy, on the 9th of August 1573, by Francesco de Marchi and his expedition companions, 213 years before the ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786, which was considered to be the first in History. Thanks to de Marchi's Chronicle of his climb, interviews of historians, geologists, the mountaineer Hervé Barmasse and re-enactments, we enjoy this spectacular clamber full of challenges. What was his motivation at the age of 69? Accomplishing a historic feat? To increase knowledge of the geography of the time?
