Sam Holcroft's play A Mirror is a metatheatrical political thriller interrogating censorship, authorship and free speech. It was first performed at the Almeida Theatre, London, on 15 August 2023, and transferred to the Trafalgar Theatre in the West End in January 2024. The play begins with the audience being welcomed as wedding guests to Leyla and Joel's marriage. However, it soon becomes apparent that the wedding ceremony is a cover for the staging of an unlicensed play in a world controlled by 'the Ministry', and the occasion is fraught with risk for performers and audience alike. Nothing, it turns out, is quite what it seems. The Almeida Theatre production was directed by Jeremy Herrin with set and costume design by Max Jones and lighting design by Azusa Ono. It was performed by Sara Houghton, Jonny Lee Miller, Aaron Neil, Tanya Reynolds, Geoffrey Streatfeild, Miriam Wakeling, Micheal Ward, Sarah Carvalho, Aimee Dore, Mariella Dyckhoff, Evans Nwogu, Zak Shetewi, Elliot Tamatave and Kyle Walsh.
