Summary:
Rutin (3`,4`, 5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone-3-D-rutinoside), known as vitamin P, is one of the biologically active flavonoids widely present in plants. In living organisms, rutin binds Fe2+ and prevents the reaction of those ions with hydrogen peroxide. In one study, the authors set out to determine the effects of rutin on protective capacity (xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes and antioxidant status) in intact rats and under oxidative stress. The results showed that in healthy, intact rats and under oxidative stress, rutin can activate the enzyme systems responsible for the protective capacity of the organism. In closing, a review study is presented regarding simple and sensitive enzymatic electrochemical biosensors developed to detect rutin. This study focused on the construction of chemical sensors using metal nanoparticles and biosensors with carbon paste electrodes modified with different materials used for enzyme immobilization, such as: metallic nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, ionic liquids, chitosan and cyclodextrin.
